We set out the difference between hire purchase and a finance lease in plain terms.

What it costs
Capitalflow does not publish rates for asset finance or commercial property. Its rates page says: "We don't do set rates. We do fair ones." The rate is agreed after it has looked at your business.
It does publish its fees. For business hire purchase and leasing, on a schedule dated 22 August 2024:
- Documentation fee: €250
- Purchase fee: €250
- Unpaid direct debit: €25
- Rescheduling the agreement: €250
- Lease asset disposal fee: €250
VAT is added where it applies.
Paying off early. The schedule says an early settlement is worked out as the remaining balance "and future interest". Ask for an early settlement figure before you sign, so you know what leaving early would cost.
For commercial property loans, on a schedule dated 25 January 2024, the standard arrangement fee is 1% and the standard exit fee is 1%. You pay the valuation and legal fees. A termination fee may apply if you repay before the end of the term.
Who can apply
Capitalflow says it works with sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, from micro businesses to large firms.
It publishes no minimum trading time and no minimum turnover. Asked whether it can help newer and smaller firms, its FAQ says it has been "supporting new and small businesses since 2016" and invites them to get in touch. That is not a promise to fund a start-up. Each case is decided on its own merits.
Commercial property loans are for limited companies and start at €250,000. That puts them out of reach for most small local businesses.
What you have to send
Capitalflow's guide to applying says it may ask for:
The guide says a business plan may be needed, not that it always is. If you are asked for one, we have a worked template for the kind of plan Capitalflow describes.
How to apply and how long it takes
- Phone 01 563 2400, email hello@capitalflow.ie, or use the quick quote form on its website.
- Talk through what you need and send the documents it asks for.
- Capitalflow confirms that it has a complete application. It says this happens straight away in most cases, and within 5 working days at the latest.
- It issues a formal decision within 15 working days of getting everything. It says most assessments are finished within hours or days.
- For hire purchase or a lease, it asks the supplier for an invoice, checks the asset is not already financed elsewhere, and pays the supplier.
- For a property loan, you receive a term sheet first. An arrangement fee is payable before due diligence starts. Solicitors and valuers are then appointed.
Our loan finder shows which other lenders' published rules fit the amount you want to borrow.
If you are refused
Capitalflow says it will explain why and tell you about its appeals process. It says a refusal does not affect your credit rating.
Its guide says a small or medium business whose appeal fails can refer the case to Credit Review, the independent service that looks again at refused business credit.
Capitalflow Group DAC is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland as a retail credit firm. Its terms of business say the Central Bank's regulations on lending to small and medium businesses apply to it.
