Are you, or a parent, aged 70 or over?
116,000 households are missing out on about €580 a year
The Department of Social Protection says as many as 116,000 households with someone aged 70 or over may be entitled to the Household Benefits Package and not getting it. Over 70s qualify automatically, no means test, no pension needed. It is €35 a month towards electricity or gas plus a free TV licence. Nobody rings you to offer it. You have to apply.

The big one
Housing Adaptation Grant — up to €40,000
If you or someone in your home has a disability or is getting older, the Housing Adaptation Grant pays for stairlifts, level-access bathrooms, ramps, downstairs bedrooms and more — up to €40,000 depending on your income. It is the largest grant most households will ever claim, and the one people most often miss.
