Worth knowing
Timing matters in 2026. The grant is for new battery electric vehicles only — no plug-in hybrids and no used cars — and the upper price cap drops from €60,000 to €50,000 for applications after 31 July 2026, so a higher-priced EV is cheaper to grant-fund before that date. If you are scrapping an older petrol or diesel car, stack the new ICE2EV scrappage grant on top for up to €8,500 off in total.
