What it is
SUSI is the main student support in Ireland. The maintenance grant helps with living costs, and the fee grant covers the student contribution and tuition where payable.

Worth knowing
The single biggest factor in your maintenance grant is distance: the non-adjacent rate (living more than 30km from college) is far higher than the adjacent rate. The special rate, for households on a qualifying long-term welfare payment under the income limit, is higher again. Even if you do not qualify for maintenance, you may still get your student contribution paid in full or in part, so it is almost always worth applying. Apply early — the priority deadline is in July.
